What is the BESR Baseball Bat Standard?
Baseball bats used by high school and college players under NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations rules must pass a test known as the Ball Exit Speed Ratio, or BESR test. This test uses a machineto swing a bat at 68 mph towards a ball which is moving towards the bat at 70 mph. After impact the ball passes through a speed trap and the “ball exit speed” is measured.
