What is the Benjamin Banneker Microcomputer Learning Facility?
The Banneker Facility, a project initiated by the Committee for the Collegiate Education of Black and Other Minority Students [CCEBMS] and the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst, is named after the well-known, 18th century Afro-American mathematician, astronomer, and farmer. One of the purposes of this microcomputer facility is to offer students a basic foundation in “computer literacy,” thereby preparing and motivating them to acquire technical skills which will enhance their general knowledge as well as future careers. This service is provided to CCEBMS students and Afro-American Studies majors and minors. The Underground Railroad.
