What is the benefit of measuring heart rate?
To receive the benefits of physical activity, it is important to exercise without tiring quickly. Pacing yourself is especially important if you’ve been inactive. Proper pacing can be accurately achieved by first determining your “resting heart rate” and then calculating “your maximum heart rate” and lastly your “target heart rate”. Knowing your target heart rate makes it possible to determine an exercise regiment and then monitor your progress in an exercise regiment. This requires measuring your heart rate as you exercise and staying within your target heart rate zone that is 50 to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate.
