What is the benefit of having a mesh basket in the pond?
Having a plant potted into a mesh basket or a pot full of holes provides several benefits. Using a coarse planting material like pea gravel would eliminate the possibility of a fine material like clay soil to cloud the water. The plant would absorb nutrients from the water as opposed to the soil which would reduce algae growth in the pond. The pea gravel itself would provide lots of surface area for beneficial bacterial to begin growing which would help keep your ponds water clean and healthy.
