This is a naturally occurring phenomenon in the air. A simple rainfall causes natural ionisation when the water drops fall on the ground. This phenomenon frees the air of all pollution from microdust: various types of smoke (cigarette), urban dust, ultra-fine particles from diesel engines, pollens, mites, bacterial or viral germs (often spread by poorly maintained air-conditioning filters!) etc.
