One of the big drawbacks of DVDR is capacity. All re-writeable DVDRs have a capacity of 4.7GB which translates into about 2 hours of high quality recording. Thus if you feel you’re likely to exceed this regularly then consider a HDD/DVDR combi – especially if you have a TV/screen that enables you to appreciate the high quality mode. However the core benefit of HDD/DVDR combi machines has nothing to do with capacity. The ‘problem’ with a non-HDD DVD recorder is that you can either make compatible recordings that play on other DVD players OR you can edit, re-arrange clips and enjoy simultaneous record/playback – you can’t do both.
