The size of the drill center is relevant mostly for replacement cabinet pulls and handles, or for those concerned about replacing their handles in the future. Buying hardware with standard size drill centers will give you more options when looking to replace your cabinet hardware, since many styles will fit into the existing holes. If you are replacing existing cabinet handles, you must measure the drill center to make sure that your new hardware selection will fit into the existing holes. If your hardware choice does not match the current holes, you can either choose a complementary backplate to cover the previous holes, or find a different cabinet hardware style that will suit the existing holes.
