The data set that the trial schools received focussed upon trends and distance travelled. Schools will be able to track children’s reading progress by using Running Records along with other local information gathered (eg from SEA, ESL scales, SACSA) providing a rich picture about reading development. As Running Records are for observing and analysing reading behaviours the level achieved is only one part of the purpose. It is most important for teachers to respond to the range of information gathered to inform teaching practice.
