What is the basis of the Tribunal’s powers?
The Lands Tribunal Act 1949 provided for tribunals in all parts of the UK, including Scotland. However, the limited volume of work meant that the Scottish Tribunal did not come into force until March 1971. This was prompted by the passing of the Conveyancing and Feudal Reform (Scotland) Act 1970, which gave the Lands Tribunal powers to discharge title conditions. Further specific powers have been added by subsequent Acts of Parliament as set out on the Historical Background page.
