What is the basic difference between fiberglass, rock wool, cellulose insulation?
Fiberglass is made from recycled glass or sand or other inorganic materials under in a very controlled environment. Fiberglass is available in blanket or can be blown in dry. Since it is inorganic, it does not burn. It is installed dry and does not retain moisture so it has nearly no settling over time which means that it’s R-value will not degrade. Rock wool is made in the same way as fiberglass except for the raw material is natural rock. Rock wool can be blown in dry or it can be in blanket or board form. Cellulose is made from recycled newspaper to which flame retardant chemicals are added. Cellulose is usually blown in moistened with glue and has to dry.
