What is the bad smell coming from my bathroom and sinks?

I wish we knew if this is a new home or one you just moved into? Sometimes plumbing vents are not correctly installed when a bathroom is built and or remodeled. Slowly running water going down a drain sometimes is enough to break the water trap which can allow sewer gas to be pulled back up through the trap especially if a bath vent fan is on. Also a toilet flush can suck trap water out of a nearby fixture if the main stack for the toilet does not vent properly. Try plugging up vent holes in bath sink with masking tape and see if you still smell the sewer gas – a too shallow trap can sometimes not hold enough water to resist being pulled out by a nearby toilet as it flushes. You could also be getting sewer vent gas coming down from the attic if your sewer vent stack was not ran up and out of the roof. Try to get referrals from home center or plumbing supply house for a good reasonable plumber to come out and check it out.Be sure to ask how much if any charge there will be to come out a
