What is the bacteria called that causes gingivitis?
I’m a dentist. It’s not just one bacteria that causes it. There are many. P. gingivalis, A. actinomycetemcomitans, F. nucleatum, P. intermedia, among others come to mind as significant players. There are far more bacteria involved in peridontal disease than I am capable of remembering, however. Let me put it to you this way: the variety of bacteria implicated in periodontal disease is so diverse, that treating periodontal disease chemotherapeutically requires the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics (such as tetracyclines).
