What is the background of the current election process?
In 2005 some OSBA members proposed changes to the OSBA elections process. The resolutions proposing the changes did not pass, but they initiated the appointment of a Governance Committee to study how school board associations throughout the United States are governed. The 17 member committee made recommendations to the OSBA for several changes in the governance structure based on their own review process and the feedback of members. Those recommendations were put in front of the membership in the form of a resolution in November 2007 and were passed. The governance changes include 1) OSBA member boards now vote as one, instead of each individual board member casting his or her own vote. This is consistent with the statutory language that created our organization in 1946 and which defines our membership. 2) The voting process was expanded to allow vote-by-mail and electronic voting. 3) Regions were developed for use in place of Congressional Districts as a means of organization. 4) Voti
