What is the average sallary of an airline pilot?
The average salary of an airline pilot is really difficult to calculate. There are a great number of pilots on the low end of this salary scale, balanced by enough of them on the high end to really screw up the average. I have been employed by a regional airline whose starting pay was only $22 per flight hour. In the United States, pilots are almost all paid by flight hour and are not on salary. Flight hours are air time, not ground time. When you’re boarding the plane, those pilots in the cockpit are NOT on the clock. They are paid only for the time spent flying the aircraft. To put things in perspective, regional airline pilots, first year first officer, will start around $20-28 per hour. A regional airline captain could potentially make $36-45 an hour, after gaining seniority. A first year first officer of my airline makes $48. Due to the type of aircraft I fly, I currently make $76 per flight hour. If you want a real accurate scale of current airline pay, try visiting this website
