What is the average salary for an astronomer in India?
In India the scope and job descriptions in the field of Astronomy is blowing up fast. But competition is intense. I’d say that the weeding process of ‘genuine & interested’ from ‘careerists migrating to lucrative jobs’ is still primitive, unlike (say) in USA. Several factors make this task daunting. It is needless to go into the sociology of this, but I list a few things here in view of the low level (exposure less, aspiration less) uninspiring education system (leaving out the ‘islands of excellence’ that should have been universalised). 1. You must work hard & study well (well, a million people advise you that). Score near 100 in Physics & Mathematics but keep scoring an all subjects. As I told above, education system is in dumps. In Hyderabad, this pre-college/university education system is bypassed conveniently and ‘tutorial’ colleges have taken over. They train you to score far higher to get admissions into IITs.
