What is the average range of scores?
Scores on the Emotional Intelligence Appraisal™ are normally distributed, with a mean score of 75. This means that the majority (68%) of scores will fall in the middle of the range, between 65 to 85, and fewer scores will fall at either the extreme high or low ends of the scale, below 65 or above 85; this is similar to the way IQ scores are distributed. This is important for people to understand because this type of scale is different from the scores we received in school, where a 70 was often perceived in a negative way. Scoring within the average range, of 65 to 85, on a skill that is unfamiliar or unpracticed is to be anticipated.
