Not to mention that driving in Tokyo is a nightmare to say the least: traffic is often extremely heavy, and the roads are tough to navigate. If you live and work outside of Tokyo, you will most likely another form of transportation. People who live close to where they work often bike or walk. But that’s somewhat rare, so most people commute by car, often as long as an hour or two each way. As for distance from work to home, with the land prices in Tokyo being extremely high, many people live out in the prefectures. As such, some people can live as far as 40-60 km away from their work places, thus taking as long as an hour and a half to get to work on the train. Outside of Tokyo, it tens to be much shorter.
