What is the average cost of a dog per year?
Exluding start up fees like beds, toys, leashes the dog, spaying or neutering etc. Your prob looking at AU $3-6 a day in food depending on size and the quality of food you plan to feed it, Yearly vaccnatiions and vet check ups allow $100 a year, Also obedience club membership around $50 a year or private training lessons around $30-$50 per hour, you can’t predict emergency vet visits or how much they cost they can be anywhere from $100 into the thousdands. Also worming and flea control (which ranges in prices) For a year excpect to pay atleast $1000 + for normal upkeep of an adult dog Good luck with you future pup.
It depends on what you may or may not have already the start up cost of getting a dog can be a lot more than expected when you have to purchase: bowls, leash, collar, toys, bed/cage, baby gates?, food, treats, training classes, neuter/spay, etc yearly break down for me…(estimates) factor in vet visits for shots and check ups $100-500 flea & tick prevention (12 months) $145 food (the good stuff, not iams) $180 dog treats for training $60 periodic new toys $60 dog park membership $300 grooming/baths $120 and more I’m sure. Having a dog is a big investment you have to be prepared to make for many years. Make sure you think it through not only the money but the time…taking the dog out and walks every day. also factor in boarding if you travel at all for work or holidays… usually $25-50 per night.
I just figured out our yearly vet bills the other day for our dog. Between boosters, flea and worm preventatives, and getting her nails filed monthly (which is obviously optional) it came to around $720 a year. We spend around $70 a month on food and i’ll just estimate and say $150 for accesories. So thats about $1560 a year give or take. However we have a saint bernard, obviously if you are talking about say a teacup yorkie it wouldn’t be as much. Our vet also tends to be a little higher than others here. But this is an accurate average for us. Yes it seems like alot but broken down monthly it isn’t so bad. And my girl is priceless to me.
