What is the average class size? What is the largest?
• The average class size depends on each course. In your introductory courses like Calculus, Biology, History, etc. is around 180 students. For Math and Science courses, students have a recitation or lab course of around 20-30 students in addition to the large lectures. For courses such as English, foreign languages and many other humanities courses, the average class size is around 30 students. In Computing, the first 2 years of introductory courses the average class is around 150-180, including recitation sessions of 20-30 students. Once you enter your upper level classes, the average class size can be anywhere from 15-90 students depending on the course. The largest courses are Calculus, Intro to Computer Science for Engineers, and the Sciences (Bio, Chem and Earth Sciences).
