The J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Automotive Environmental Index (AEI)SM is based on publicly available technical information from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and J.D. Power and Associates proprietary voice-of-the-customer data regarding experiences and perceptions of consumers. The Automotive Environmental Index is a subset of the 2006 Alternative Powertrain Study. AEI combines publicly available EPA data with voice-of-the-customer information related to fuel economy, air pollution and greenhouse gases. Voice-of-the-customer data is also used to help determine the relative importance of these factors, with fuel economy representing 53.1%, air pollution at 38.4% and greenhouse gases at 8.5%. Voice-of-the-customer data is derived from the following two proprietary J.D. Power and Associates studies: • 2006 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study, which is based responses from 63,607 new vehicle owners, measuring 251 models and measures opinions of consumers
