Response from the Head at Sir Graham Balfour High School: Teachers do feel that they get the difficult classes. However, they always did and also got the easier ones as well, now at least the volume is less. We were very up front about this in meetings etc, arguing that teachers do have higher-level skills so we need to use these skills where they are most needed. I have not had a single complaint regarding this from teachers. Interestingly we have one Teaching Assistant who has outstanding behaviour management techniques and he is used for ‘red groups’ by agreement.
