What is the ATOR industry?
ATOR is an acronym that stands for “Adventure Tourism and Outdoor Recreation.” It is a term used to describe a distinct sector of the tourism industry and has been adopted as the name of our program. As adventure tourism and outdoor recreation are inherently linked to tourism, it is an industry that operates on a global scale. It is a field that shares other general traits with tourism, including it being service-based. Some of the specific qualities of the ATOR industry is that operations are often tied directly to a specific environmental resource. As a result, operations are often concentrated in regions with unique/desirable natural resources and can be seasonal.
