Under Californias APLE (Assumption Programs of Loans for Education) programs, up to $11,000 of your student loan debt will be repaid in return for up to four years of teaching in California in areas where there is a critical shortage. If you teach math, science or special education, an additional $1,000 will be assumed each year. If you teach one of these three subjects at a designated lowest-performing school, another $1,000 a year will be paid off, for a total of $19,000 in loan assumption benefits. Theres also a Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness Program.
