What is the ASHP Resident Matching Program?
• The ASHP Resident Matching Program, also known as “the Match,” assists over 1000 applicants obtain pharmacy practice residencies at the sites of their choice. Aside from pharmacy practice residencies, two-year management residencies combined with a master’s degree are also in the Match. • The Match levels the playing field for all potential residents by having the applicant rank the sites for all pharmacy practice programs they are interested in at the same time. It takes pressure off candidates to make a decision before they have completed all of their interviews. It offers residency program directors enough time to interview all the potential candidates before making a decision. • When you rank the sites you are considering, remember two important things: (1) do not miss the date for the rank and (2) do not rank any programs in which you do not want to participate. Even if you interviewed at a site, do not feel obligated to rank that site if you do not want to be a resident there.
