What is the Arthritis & Autoimmunity Research Centre (AARC) Foundation?
The AARC Foundation was formerly the Wellesley Hospital Foundation. Our name was officially changed in April 2000, to more accurately reflect our mission. Our Foundation fundraises for Canada’s largest and most comprehensive research facility dedicated to arthritis and related disorders. Our new name is taken from the original Arthritis & Autoimmunity Research Centre established at The Wellesley Hospital in 1991. When St. Michael’s Hospital was ordered to take over The Wellesley, the Research Centre and its Director, Dr. Christopher Paige, along with senior scientists and staff moved to University Avenue and joined colleagues at University Health Network (comprising Toronto General, Toronto Western and Princess Margaret Hospitals). Dr. Paige is now Vice-President of Research at UHN.
