What is the art of hitting a softball?
You need good form and good timing. You need to see the pitch from the pitcher’s hip all the way in. Coach Anne Campbell switched you from the No. 3 spot to leadoff to give you as many at-bats as possible. Did you like that strategy? Yes. There was pressure at the beginning of a game but once you are over it, it’s OK. It’s nice to get more chances at bat. It’s a different attitude. A lot of leadoff hitters are slappers or bunters or singles hitters. Teams approach me differently because I’m a power hitter. Your team got to the sectional final two years ago and to the sectional semifinal last year. But you lost in the regional final this year. How disappointing was that? It was really disappointing, especially because it was my senior year. We made it farther the last two years. It wasn’t as good as I wished we could have ended. I knew we could have done better. It sucks. There is no other way to put it. My teammates don’t know this about me… I try to act as if things don’t bother me.
