What is the area for Artist Communities?
Last year, a new field designation was created for Artist Communities in recognition of the unique role that they play as supporters of creativity and individual artists. Artist Communities are on par with other fields, such as Museums or Presenting, through which applicants approach the agency and its funding opportunities. Artist communities now apply to the Access to Artistic Excellence category through Artist Communities. For the Arts Endowment’s purposes, an artist community is defined as an organization, whether focused on a single discipline or multidisciplinary, whose primary mission is to provide artist residencies.
