What is the approximate cost of adding a ballistic parachute to an aircraft competing in the Green Flight Challenge?
The cost will depend upon the size of the aircraft, how much new engineering is required and whether the aircraft will become a market for many more ballistic parachutes for the company that sells them. Cost estimates provided by BRS, for example, for aircraft of the size thus far entered in the GFC have ranged from $4,000 to $20,000 for the parachute. Greater costs could be required for larger aircraft or aircraft of configurations that require re-engineering the parachute’s attachment and deployment.
