On the UP3 board, 74 I/O pins are brought out from the FPGA to a standard connector pattern known as Santa Cruz connector(specified by Altera). A user can make some small add-on boards to expand the functionality of the UP3, like a simple ADC/DAC board, Stepper motor control board, Ethernet controller and lot more.
