At the 3/19/09 hearing, Village officials distributed spreadsheets showing the Village’s finances. http://www.mariemont.org/html/news_.html (date visited 4/11/09). The Village’s expenses are exceeding its revenues and the Village will be out of money in a few years, unless Village Council takes action, which we do not dispute. At the hearing officials discussed two possible options to address the projected financial shortfalls: Option A retains the Mariemont Fire Department by increasing property taxes by $445 (5 mills on a $300,000 house); and Option B abolishes the Mariemont Fire Department to join the LMFR, which would result in an immediate property tax increase of $837 per year (9.4 mills) which will be reduced to a “net” property tax increase of $312 (3.5 mills).
