What is the appeal of The von Trapp Children?
The von Trapp Children take their audiences back to a simpler time. Older audience members love the simplicity of their show, which hearkens back to touring acts of the first half of the last century. Boomers and their school-age children are taken back to their childhood by the songs from “The Sound of Music,” many of which have been arranged in four-part harmony. The children, through the fact that they are actually descended from the real Captain and Maria, provide a living connection to the past. Finally, and most important, the children have an amazing God-given gift: Their voices are absolutely sublime! When Bruce Houghton of Skyline Music brought this act to my attention, the kids were, quite literally, passing the hat in churches, and their parents had amassed a substantial debt making an album and trying to get the kids started touring. In the three years since I became their manager and record label, they’ve succeeded beyond any of our wildest dreams, touring Japan, Korea, Au
