The main appeal of the television show American Idol to viewers is the predominent theme of failure and success. People identify with the auditioners who go for their dream and fail (like many people do) and they are also up-lifted and given hope by the winner who beat all the odds and succeeds. As well people are also amused by the oblivious singers who clearly have no talent or business in singing.
