Local businesses and organizations field three-person teams that compete in a not-so-old-fashioned spelling bee. Past competitors include Bureau of National Affairs, Commercial Real Estate Women, Shearman & Sterling, Social & Scientific Systems, Navigant Consulting, and Winston & Strawn, to name just a few. Words come from the Spell It! word book developed by Miriam-Webster for spelling bees nationwide. A gameshow-style buzzer system and optional “lifelines” spice up the action. In addition, competitors and supporters dine on food and drink and have the chance to bid on fabulous items during an on-going silent auction.
