What is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?
The “Answer” is simply “42”. In the story, the Answer to the Ultimate Question about Life, the Universe, and Everything is produced using the hypercomputer Deep Thought. It generated the Answer after a very long computation time (7.5 million years); however the computer’s abilities proved insufficient when asked to provide the Ultimate Question to match the answer of 42. Thereafter, the answer given by Deep Thought prompts the protagonists to embark on a quest to discover the Question to which this is the Answer.
