What is the Alternative Intake Project?
The Alternative Intake Project (project) will locate a new intake at Victoria Canal allowing CCWD to divert higher quality water at certain times of the year. The intake will give CCWD flexibility in the timing and location of pumping which will provide a benefit to Delta fisheries, including Delta Smelt. The new intake will provide water quality benefits to CCWD by changing the location and timing of diversions, but will not increase total diversions. CCWD and the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) released the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIR/EIS) in May 2006 and the Final EIR/EIS in October 2006. As detailed in the EIR/EIS, the project will consist of constructing and operating a new, screened water intake (with a maximum capacity of 250 cubic-feet-per-second [cfs]) and pump station located along the lower third of Victoria Canal on Victoria Island in the central Delta. A buried pipeline will be constructed from the new intake across Victo
