What is the AKC Standard?
The AKC sets the standard for the size and attributes of the “perfect” dog in each breed. The AKC describes the Chihuahua as having a well rounded “apple-shaped” head, with or without molera (“soft-spot” in skull). The weight should not exceed 6 pounds. The eyes should be full, but not protruding. The ears should be large and erect, held more upright when alert, but flaring to the sides at a 45 degree angle when in repose. The muzzle should be moderately short and slightly pointed. The cheeks and jaw should be lean. For more info go to the AKC website.
