WHAT IS THE AKAMAS PENINSULA?
Covering approximately 230km2, the Akamas Peninsula is a protected area of pine and juniper forests, rugged cliffs, winding trails and blue lagoons. Ideal for hiking, biking and jogging, this unspoilt paradise is home to an extraordinary variety of flora and fauna – 600 different plant species and over 100 different types of birds, mammals and reptiles as well as one of the few remaining breeding grounds for green and loggerhead turtles. It‟s also renowned as the birthplace of Aphrodite and for the baths where, according to legend, the Goddess used to bathe with her lover Adonis.
