The National Geographic Society is an organization dedicated to the furtherance of education and scientific knowledge and accordingly it has stated its aim as “to increase and diffuse geographic knowledge while promoting the conservation of the world’s cultural, historical and natural resources.” The organization set up in 1888 by explorers and scientists in Washington DC in the United States has come a long way since then and has become a leading authority in the matters of conducting research in various fields from science and geography to history and archeology; the organization also finances various projects and explorations and provides a platform for budding scientists to conduct research by enabling access of various necessary facilities.
