What is the Agents role at Congress?
The agent’s role is multifaceted. The agent or assigned designee (which could be an adult volunteer) serves as the “chaperone” for his/her unit’s delegation of teens. To chaperone means everything from serving as confidant to enforcing rules, to ensuring that paperwork is complete and that youth health and safety needs are met. It does not mean that adults are expected to follow their teen delegation around every hour of everyday. You and other adult volunteers will check with them in an informal, but planned way several times a day and meet with them once each evening to review/debrief the day and prepare for the next. In addition to chaperone responsibilities, agents and adult volunteers have other assigned duties that help Congress run smoothly. These tasks vary greatly from dorm monitor and game referee to competition, workshop or assembly coordinator. Each is important and requires serious commitment.
