AF Illuminator is used fro focusing on the target. Like IR illuminator the Auto Focus Illuminator is a low-power red-light source used to give sufficient illumination for the camera to carry out automatic focusing under poor light conditions.

The AF illuminator allows the auto focus system to focus on dark subjects. When the shutter button is pressed half way, the AF illuminator will light up the subject. The default setting is ON.
