What is the advantage of scanning with the highest adjustable resolution of 14400 dpi in SilverFast?
The scan software of SilverFast offers the possibility to to adjust a resolution value of 14.400 that is beyond the nominal resolution of 7200 dpi. Does such an adjustment make sense? A further resolution test with this high value of 14400 dpi provided the same result as with a resolution of 7200 dpi adjusted in SilverFast, that is an effective resolution of approximately 3450 dpi (see also Previous Question). Conclusion: adjusting a resolution of 14400 dpi in SilverFast does not provide an improvement in the effective resolution compared to a scan with 7200 dpi. The only advantage provided by 14.400 dpi is that one gets an image file that is 4 times bigger but does not contain more image information at all. Due to this reason, one maybe should consider this advantage rather as a disadvantage.
