What is the advantage of penetrating concrete stain over paint?
Penetrating concrete stains have a distinct advantage over paint when it comces to coloring your existing concrete. Paint will usuallly begin to peel or flake after a while and we all know how unsightly that is. Concrete stains will penetrate the surface for permanent coloring. Acid stains will actually chemically react with the cement to create color. Acrylic stains are absorbed into the surface pores for complete surface area bonding. Paint, for the most part, just sits on top of the surface and allows air and moisture to get underneath which eventually causes it to flake away. Concrete stains also produce a more natural look. Surface textures and variations remain visible due to the semitransparent coloring. Because acid staining produces color through chemical reactions, the result is a mottled, or variegated appearance like that of marble. Acrylic stains produce a more uniform color but still much more natural and elegant compared to paint. For more details see: Acid based penetra
