What is the advantage of Firecomms’ visible VCSEL?
Firecomms visible VCSEL has a low threshold current and low power consumption giving it a distinct advantage over its edge-emitting counterparts in those applications where power conservation is critical, such as handheld consumer applications. Additionally, the VCSEL produces a circular output beam which can simplify the optics of the system and reduce overall packaging cost. Unlike an 850nm VCSEL, which is invisible to the eye, the VCSEL output can be clearly seen which makes its use very attractive in those applications where ease of alignment is key, such as displacement sensors or metrology, or where the user experience is enhanced by the visibility of the beam, such as the light source in a mouse navigation engine.
