With the exception of children’s models, a $150 metal detector typically has the same depth capability as a $500 unit, but offers less features than its more expensive counterpart. If you can live without features like advanced discrimination, sensitivity, selectivity, LED or LCD readouts, then a basic, good quality metal detector will do the job for most treasure seekers.
