What is the Administrative Area of a College?
It depends on the circumstances of each college. Absent specific action of the State Board and multiple county commissions, or legislative action, the county in which the main campus is located is the Administrative Area of the College. (The Administrative Area of a college is often different than the service area of a college. A colleges Administrative Area is unlikely include any county outside of the colleges service area, and the Administrative Area may include one or more of the counties in a colleges service area.) This question has been asked of the General Counsels office more often during the last three months than during the last three years. The questions are generally associated with the appointment of trustees. In one instance, a county with only an off-campus center within its borders seeks to increase its influence by seeking a vote in the process of appointing trustees to the board.
