What is the Adaptive Immune System?
The Adaptive Immune System produced a specific response to an infective agent. This specific response is in the form of antibodies, which are produced to neutralize the invading agent. A very important feature of the Adaptive Immune System is that it involves memory, in that it gives rise to resistance to repeated exposure or infection by the same invading agent. The importance of this memory factory is seen in childhood disease such as Chicken Pox, Measles, and Mumps in which the Adaptive Immune System produces a life-long immunity following infection.
