There are two types of Sensodyne toothpaste in Canada: Sensodyne-F formulations and Sensodyne Original formula. These two variants utilize different active ingredients for the treatment of dentin hypersensitivity. Sensodyne-F contains potassium nitrate 5% w/w, as the desensitizing agent, and also contains fluoride for ongoing caries prevention. Potassium nitrate inhibits repolarization of sensory nerve endings, thereby reducing the pain response to stimulation.
