The ABC Program also started in 1991 almost simultaneously with the TPS Program. The American Baptist Church v. Thornburgh, 760, F.Sup. 796 (N.D. Cal.1991) case that is under the jurisdiction of the Ninth Circuit Federal Court of San Francisco, established what is now known as ABC Program.

The ABC Program is an experiment trying to counter the effects of modern society and re-introduce people to the joy of square dancing, without asking for the commitment required to learn the full Mainstream program. People who have never been in a square can show up, at ANY dance, learn a few calls, and have a great time square dancing.

ABC=A Better Chance and is for minorities. It’s a wonderful program that has been doing great work for a very long time. The schools often have a special commitment to funding ABC applicants.
