Field education Field education is a core component of the social work education process, and has the status of a full academic subject. It is a key activity for the student, providing opportunities to integrate content from classroom learning with practical experience, whilst at the same time developing competence in a range of social work skills. It demands collaborative effort between school and agency staff and students, and may be enhanced by the maintenance of strong links with local AASW branches. Contemporary workplace conditions give rise to both the need and the opportunity to develop creative and innovative field education placements.
