What is the 21st Century Salmon and Steelhead Framework?
The 21st Century Salmon and Steelhead Framework is a new decision-making tool developed in partnership by Long Live the Kings (LLTK) and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to drive All-H management of salmon and steelhead. The framework is designed to help WDFW conserve wild salmon and provide sustainable fisheries by: • integrating decisions about hatcheries, harvest, and habitat at multiple scales; • making decisions in an All-H context; and • ensuring that science-based, transparent, accountable management is made institutional. The framework sets out what is necessary, across multiple disciplines, to meet the goal of conserving wild salmon and providing sustainable fisheries; it assesses where WDFW is today in relation to the goal; and it identifies benchmarks over the next 50 years against which to measure progress.
